Commemoration of the Liberation of Khorramshahr
The anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr in 1982
The third of Khordad ( 24 may) marks the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr in 1982 (1361 in the Iranian calendar). This major victory took place during Operation Beit al-Moqaddas, after 578 days of occupation by the Iraqi Ba’ath Army. Due to the strategic and spiritual significance of this event in the history of the Iran–Iraq War, this day is officially named in Iran’s calendar as the “Day of Resistance, Sacrifice, and Victory.”
