Dr. Pezeshkian in a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council: Cooperation with IAEA depends on end of its double standards
President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the continuation of Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) depends on correcting the agency’s double standards regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear case
On Wednesday evening, President Pezeshkian and President of the European Council Antonio Costa held a phone call to discuss the latest international developments, particularly the recent 12-day imposed war against Iran, and the outlook for relations between Iran and the European Union. Reiterating Iran’s history of principled cooperation with the IAEA, the Iranian president stressed that such cooperation will continue only if the agency stops its double standards on Iran’s nuclear case.
Responding to the European Council president’s concern over Iran's suspension of cooperation with the IAEA, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect. He said the recent Iranian parliamentary resolution was a reaction to the biased and unprofessional behavior of the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
Pezeshkian added that the agency’s failure to maintain neutrality in its reports, disregard for blatant attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and silence on violations of international law have undermined its credibility. He noted that membership in international bodies like the IAEA should provide balanced support and benefits; otherwise, participation becomes meaningless.
Pezeshkian thanked the European Council president for his efforts in promoting diplomacy and constructive engagement and emphasized Iran’s readiness to expand ties and resolve issues with the EU through respectful and productive dialogue.
Pezeshkian further condemned the crimes committed by the Zionist regime and its destructive role in undermining global peace and security, stating that Iran was attacked by the regime and the US while it was pursuing dialogue. However, when they were met with Iran’s decisive response, they had no choice but to seek a ceasefire, the president said, adding that undoubtedly, the Zionist regime could not have acted without US coordination and approval.
He also warned that any future aggression against Iran would be met with an even stronger and more decisive response, one that would leave the aggressors with deep regret.
In response, Costa also expressed the EU’s desire to find diplomatic solutions and deepen cooperation with Iran. The European official also said that he fully agrees with the Iranian president that international organizations must avoid double standards.
The European Union holds deep respect for the history, civilization, and culture of the Iranian people and is fully prepared for dialogue and cooperation, he added.
He also expressed his sincere condolences over the martyrdom of Iranians following recent attacks and condemned the Zionist regime’s human rights violations in Gaza. He emphasized the need to end the war, deliver humanitarian aid, and provide effective support to the Palestinian people.
